The Oxford Sword and Staff
The Oxford Sword and Staff is a Historical Martial Arts group based in Oxford.
Over the years, we have worked on our interpretation of "The Art of Combat" and are currently able to provide sessions on the Longsword, Rapier, Quarterstaff, Dussack, Dagger, wrestling and sabre. As a club we are continuing to develop and are continually working to deepen our understanding of existing weapons, and encourage members to pursue their own interests in other sources or weapon sets.

Our approach to HEMA and martial arts is that they are inherently a group activity - you practice to become better (for a wide variety of definitions) at fighting opponents. This could be aimed at developing a deep knowledge of fencing according to a source, success in tournaments or experimenting with poorly documented or novel weapons.

Previous martial arts experience is not necessary, so don't be nervous about turning up as a newbie. Many of us had no experience when we started and are still learning ourselves!

The main sessions take place every Tuesday in the Sports Hall at Swan School, Oxford.

1930-2130 - Regular taught sessions, self-led study and coached-sparring.

"For as we are all not of a single nature, so we also can not have a single style in combat, yet all must nonetheless arise and be derived from a single basis."
